For my lil Nephew R.J.

So now that my dear lil nephew R.J. is about to enter high school (panic attack for me), he's really digging hip hop, which I'm juiced about. He's a pretty dope writer, just gotta make sure he stays on the right track with some gooooood stuff. So here R.J., these are a few of my favorites and I really think you'll like this. Text me and let me know what you think :) love you!

"On The Grind" by Masta Ace. HELLA good, amazing beat, great lyrics, and just over all really well produced. Other good songs by Masta Ace are Brooklyn Masala, Take A Walk, Good ol' Love, and Sittin on Chrome. I have his whole discography though if you want it.

"Artsy" by The Grouch of The Living Legends. If you don't know the Living Legends, you NEED to get to know that!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnyVYLAv-Gc
And speaking of the Living Legends, this is "Purple Kush"...ignore the name, bad influence on you! But this song is literally number 5 on my top 25 most played list on my itunes, this song is PHENOMENAL!!!!

"Spy on You" by Yak Ballz. Disgusting name of the artist, but this song GOES! The lyrics are pretty crazy, and my favorite part is the classical song behind the beat, it's from a French film called Amelie ( I wrote a 20 page paper on the movie and director when I was in college). You should look in to putting beats on top of piano or violin, it's on point!

Speaking of classical with a layer of beats: "Storm of Swords" by Jedi Mind Tricks, soooo good. I got introduced to this when I was a couple years older than you. Jedi Mind Tricks is pretty sick. Also check out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ctpic0VhrA "I Against I", and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sE3qm3MoW7Y "Heavenly Divine"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-y-lS0YqF0
CLASSIC!!! SO CLASSIC!!! "Ms. Fat Booty" by Mos Def....I know every lyric of this song, because Mos Def is a god.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CPCs7vVz6s
"On and On" by Erykah Badu. Now this, I have to give credit to Alyssa. This song came out in the 90's (when you were like 2 years old), and Alyssa was my fucking idol and everything she listened to I wanted to listen to- and this song has stayed with me ever since, this song is SO amazing, just listen to the lyrics, the beat, Erykah's voice...it's sooooo gooood! You gotta respect female rappers and singers.

"Sweetest Thing" by Lauryn Hill. Another female rapper/singer from the 90's that OWENED. She was a part of this group called The Fugees and they were amazing!!!!

I'm gonna keep adding, but this should keep you busy for a second.

Quick memory

"Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman. I used to listen to this song late at night after gettin off the phone with this boy I really liked, I imagined that he would come pick me up and we'd drive until it got light out, and we'd watch the sun rise together. Cheesy as fuck eh?

Today (right now) I'm babysitting in Kensington (Berkeley hills, nice and rich, tons of gorgeous views). I reaaallly like the family, the mom and I hung out and talked for a while this morning before she left, she's really sweet. After I'm done here I'm going to jet on down back to downtown Berkeley and take BART in to the city and have a late lunch with a pal and possibly get some 40z and kick it in Delores park, weather permitting.

Something smells like poop...looks like it's diaper changin time. PEACE

Pix and vidz

"3hours, 59min" by Jennah Bell. A Bay Area local, this is actually one of my friend's cousin! Thanks to Mr. Milon to introducing me to such an angelic voice. I love that this was filmed at BART! I like to sing this song to to the little 6 month old I take care of, she totally loves it. And who are we kidding here people, this woman is gorgeous!!!!

"Fly & Freaky" by The White Panda. Sort of like Girltalk, The White Panda likes to do mash ups, and come on, who can't deny Lenny Kravitz mixed with rap???

Thank you Seth Green, that mother fucker needed to be CHECKED.

"Tomorrow" cover of Bob Dylan by my amazing cousin Lauren Covey! She is only 18 years old and she's graduating high school this year! I remember changing her diaper! Now I know the sound sync is off, but it's still really amazing.

"So Here We Are" by Bloc Party. I really enjoyed this whole CD, it came out when I was in high school, and Bloc Party hit the charts with their single "Banquet", and while that's a great song and all, I really like the much slower indie songs from the album rather than the punch kick sort of angsty sound "Banquet" had.

"Everything You Wanted" by Kele, the lead singer from Bloc Party.

"Bluest Light" by Bloc Party. This song ENCOMPASSES the first semester of my junior year in high school. It was indian summer here in Berkeley, I spent my nights cuddling with friends and waking up ready for another day in the sunshine. The other day I went to the optometrist and the dialated my pupils, when I stepped out of the office and the daylight blinded me into bliss, that's how I felt in those days. (It also could have been the fact that I was smoking alotta weed lol).

Ooogum Boogum

God DAMN I love Tina Fey.

I love Community!!!!

http://www.unitunitunit.com/qwertybeats/ - a sick lil website where you make your own beats by using your keyboard.

http://www.knoword.org/index.php - a nice way to reaffirm the fact that I need to go back to school.

I took this REALLY weird test with all these weird shapes and really awkward questions like "who's lying to you?" and the choices were two different sets of shapes....odd, but this was my "diagnosis", and I kinda like it lol: Always happy in a crowd, you love to converse, to relate, and above all to have fun. You tend to think in a more holistic manner than many others. Like a crow you are attracted to shiny objects, new ideas, playful exciting colors and the thrill of a new personal relationship. You love to talk or gossip. You are highly invested in the reality of day-to-day life. Practicality is far more important than issues of honor or allegiance. You are a creature of the here and now. You are a natural multi-tasker, often switching mid-thought from one duty to another. You have a flair for presenting your personality in your work, and are known as a great storyteller and natural actor. You are very skilled at taking in a barrage of information and distilling what is most important from it. Naturally charming, you are quick to win new friends. Over stimulation is a danger.

"Nephicide" by Jogger, Amir and Jonathan. I love this video, Seth makes a pretty awesome appearance, so you can't really go wrong with that. I have the biiggesst fucking crush on Jonathan, he's fucking funny as shit and has a very soothing voice lol.

"Airplanes" by Local Natives. Good feel good song.

"Skeleton Boy" by Friendly Fires. This song is a classic from 2008 for me. I really like this song.

"Boombox" by The Lonely Island feat Julian Casablancas from The Strokes.

Speaking of Julian Casablancas from The Strokes, he came out with a solo album. My two favorite songs from it: "Out of the Blue", and "11th Dimension". I really dig that he's really attempting to bring back the 80's punk look.
